Pirated movies don’t have scratches that make them unplayable. Pirated movies don’t have irritating public service announcements you can’t skip. Pirated movies are easy to transcode and put onto my portable media player. Pirated media is often high definition. Pirated media is generally more flexible in usability than legitimately purchased media. That’s kind of a shame, really. I wish legitimate media was better.
why i’ve been quiet
I haven’t posted a whole lot recently! It’s for good reason, I’ve been training a couple of trainers from Manila in the Philippines in my favourite product to enable them to train in one of work’s offshore call-centers. As a result, my days have been real busy – lots of fun, too!
The other interesting news which you may or may not already know about is that I’m going to be heading over to Manila myself sometime in October to accredit these trainers in the delivery of the course. At this stage it looks like being about a 6 or 7 week stint, roughly around the same duration as my last trip when I went to Delhi in 2006. I’m looking forward to being spoilt at a fancy hotel again. I’ll probably forget how to clean my room for some time. There’ll definitely be a whole lot of photographs and posted updates right here once I go. In the meantime, all might be a little quiet. Stay tuned!
don’t text and drive!
Sweet Jesus. Effective, no? Nearly as bad as the hour long crash video they show at traffic school for naughty people.
i am an american conservative shitheel
With great thanks to randomnoise from the SA Forums:
This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US department of energy.
I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility.
After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the national weather service of the national oceanographic and atmospheric administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the national aeronautics and space administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US department of agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the food and drug administration.
At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the national institute of standards and technology and the US naval observatory, I get into my national highway traffic safety administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the environmental protection agency, using legal tender issed by the federal reserve bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US postal service and drop the kids off at the public school.
After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the department of labor and the occupational safety and health administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to ny house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal’s inspection, and which has not been plundered of all it’s valuables thanks to the local police department.
I then log on to the internet which was developed by the defense advanced research projects administration and post on freerepublic.com and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can’t do anything right
the beefing up of my macbook pro
Last night I had the pleasure of performing a little surgery on my laptop. Thanks to the instructions at ExtremeTech, I managed to get the whole thing done inside of about half an hour. There weren’t even any leftover screws! Here’s what the inside looks like (thanks ExtremeTech):
Most interestingly, I’ve been using an external 2.5″ hard drive with Time Machine for the past few months for peace of mind. I really couldn’t be bothered doing a fresh install of MacOS and reinstalling all my software so I just restored my Time Machine backup straight onto the new drive. Bloody impressive – about 5 clicks and a couple of hours later my laptop looked exactly like it did before I gutted it – all software working, all files restored.
So the specs now? Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 500GB HDD and geForce 8600M CPU. Not far away from the brand new ones!
salvador dali’s beating heart jewel
Over the weekend, I went down to Melbourne to catch up with a couple of my friends and generally wander round the place. On Saturday, I had the pleasure of spending about four hours in the Salvador Dali exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. I could probably rant and rave about how amazing that was for some time, but instead I’m just going to post a video of one of Dali’s jewels – the beating heart. It’s made of gold and rubies. The video’s a little blurry, but you get the idea.
